but
THIS IS WAR
Pillowfight Kathmandu 2011, Feb 14

On February 14, 2011, there’s going to be a pillow fight in one of the most public places in Kathmandu.

Hundreds of total strangers will be acting completely normal until a predetermined time. ABSOLUTELY Normal. And just as the clock strikes a certain time, everyone starts taking their pillows out, and starts hitting friendly shots to other pillow-fighters. The onlookers, who will know NOTHING about the pre-planning, will see just random strangers EVERYWHERE around them hitting each other with pillows.

Randomness is the point.

More details will follow soon…

KTM Freeze is FINALLY Done!

KTM Freeze Poster
Freeze Kathmandu is FINALLY done! There was confusion about the pictures and video, and then the press people were running around in circles, wondering whom to ask about the event, but finally most of it has been sorted out! Phew! It was much better than I expected in some aspects, but I was hoping more people than the 120 who should up would come.. Still, we learnt soo many lessons for the next event…

More coverage: LexLimbu covered us!

Apparently this was already posted quite some time ago, but still… Here Lexlimbu’s coverage of our event!

A trend which I believe was kicked off from the West arrived in Kathmandu on the February 14th when roughly 60 keen enthusiasts froze for 3 minutes in Basantapur. They not only created a freak scene but provided an op for the valley citizens to admire human statues. Less of me writing and just watch the video. Interesting watch, the part with the ‘makkai’ bechne aunty and the girl is like classic – ”samaunus hai”, or something like that. Well done to Shirish Pokharel and his team for the concept/idea. The cameraperson has also done a fine job. Hope they continue on like this. Theres a website as well btw.

Flashmob Kathmandu featured in Wave Magazine

Our event was featured in Wave magazine!

Here’s the link…

And here’s the piece:

If anybody knows how to freak people out, it is Shirish Pokharel and everybody who froze on the spot for three minutes in Basantapur Durbar Square, on Valentines Day.

The plan was to gather as many people as possible who would freeze at exactly the same time for three minutes, regardless of what they were up to. And after the three minutes the mob was to get on with whatever they were doing as if nothing unusual had happened. And as crazy as Kathmanduites can get, most participants ended up frozen in the wackiest of positions, tying their shoelaces, falling down, getting into a taxi and even proposing.

The event was organised by Ujwal Thapa (co-creator of Facebook group: Die Nepal Bandh Die) and had a slightly higher purpose than appeared. Though it wasn’t directly tied to the cause, the event was actually organised as a fight against bandhs and strikes, to set an example of a peaceful way to protest against these hindrances to a better Nepal.

As for Shirish Pokharel who helped coordinate the program, he claims he was in for the sake of craziness, “I think most people who joined us came because there’s a certain thrill in doing things for no reason”.
